Don't be misinformed: Briefing on three important issues on Ohio ballots

Tired of confusing one-sided commercials about Ohio’s ballot issues that you don’t understand? Want to know more about the issues you'll be voting on Tuesday? Read a summary of a few important issues and click on the links below to find out more.

Issue 1: Creates a bipartisan Ohio Commission.
According to Ballotpedia "The amendment would create a new bipartisan commission to draw legislative districts that are compact and do not favor one political party or another. The amendment would take effect in 2021 when the next redistricting will occur. Issue 1 is the fourth citizen initiative to attempt to change the redistricting process in the last 30 years."

Issue 2: Bans Monopolies in Ohio.
This means a corporation cannot dominate an industry. According to the League of Women Voters, if the board decides an action certified for the ballot creates an commercial cartel or special privilege for just a private group, including individuals, corporations and organizations, "the Ballot Board will be required to separate the proposed initiative into two parts – one part asking voters to override the limited business interest rule, and the second part describing the proposed new initiative – with both parts needing a majority vote for the initiative to pass." Translated in plain terms, do you want monopolies to control the weed industry in Ohio?

Issue 3: Legalizes Marijuana for medical and recreational use.
Ballotpedia also states "Anyone that is 21 years or older with a license purchased from the Ohio Marijuana Control Commission. Similar to a fishing license, could use, possess, grow, cultivate and share up to eight ounces of homegrown marijuana and four flowering marijuana plants. Anyone 21 years or older (with or without a license) could purchase, possess, transport, use and share up to one ounce of marijuana. Anyone with a certified debilitating medical condition could use medicinal marijuana."
