The warm aroma bubbling with espresso invites the sleepy, the cold, and the longing for company.

Sabaidee Coffee House opened in August 2014. Delana Ball owns the small coffee shop that welcomes each customer with open arms. When the shop first opened, an article was written for the TU Times to tell her story. Now, the Tystenac is taking a look at where Sabaidee is one year later.

Ball has hired extra hands, expanded her menu, and befriended many in the community. While her business has grown significantly, Ball is not slowing down.
The chatty environment and shelf of games invites customers to stay awhile. Ball has hosted movies with free popcorn on Friday nights and begun two Bible studies. She also does her best to remember names so that she can welcome everyone personally.

Ball has remodeled much of the shop to increase the homey feeling. It is not unusual to find students typing papers or professors holding their office hours in the comfort of Sabaidee.  Many regulars have a favorite drink, while others spend over five minutes every visit deciding what kind of drink they will create that day.

Ball brings the feeling of Laos, a country she missioned in for seven years, which also gives an appeal to foreign students. Foreign snacks can be found, different music heard, and gifts from Laos purchased.

The famous “Tip Jar Challenge” often battles movies against each other, with the winner being shown on a Friday night.

Ball is always trying new baked goods and mixing new flavors, staying true to her slogan: “same, same, but different.”

You can stop by Sabaidee Coffee House at 45 S. Sandusky St., just across from Franks Hall and Seitz Hall, and you can keep up with Delana Ball and the coffee house on Facebook and Instagram.
