by JESSICA HOLLAN Assistant editor Cornhole has a rich history for being one of the most popular Midwestern lawn games around. It has been played just about anywhere you can think: barbeques, family reunions, weddings, and even on ESPN. Being such a popular activity, it is no surprise that Tiffin University has the game stocked in nearly every dorm on campus. However, there is no other place it is more commonly used at than at the Theta Eta Omicron (ΘHO) fraternity house, so it is no surprise they take it upon themselves to host the annual on-campus cornhole tournament. ![]() “Theta Eta Omicron was founded in 2009 by four men who wanted a completely different take on Greek life,” said President Quintin Fleming and Vice President Trent Dundore in an official statement. “They wanted a nontraditional, non-national fraternity that focused on the individual; and we value individuality, but love coming together as a group to promote our ideals that campus involvement is only as enjoyable as you make it.” The cornhole tournament has been an annual affair at ΘHO for three years now, having started in the spring of 2014. This year’s first place winners were Trey and Connor, with second place going to Austen and Samantha, and third to Duncan and Nate. “This tournament is something we love putting together because we know how stressful the first few weeks of class can be for first-year students,” said Fleming and Dundore. “We just want people to enjoy every minute of their experience at Tiffin University.” ΘHO has been gaining in both membership and recognition from Tiffin University. Due to the fraternity’s involvement on campus and in the community, they have been presented with the Outstanding Greek Organization award four times in just seven years. “The entire organization has been working tirelessly to keep up the level of work that it takes to be [the] Outstanding Greek Organization, but that's not why we do what we do,” they said. “As an organization, we love being there to lend a helping hand to whoever needs it.” Despite having been given most of the recognition, both the president and vice president make it clear that they would never be the accomplished organization they are if it weren’t for their adviser, Dr. Gene Chintala. “Gene has been there from day one, supporting us in anything that we do,” said Fleming and Dundore. “I only see progress coming from our fraternity for the future. We are dedicated to making this campus enjoyable for every single person, whether they are in Greek life or not.” The pledging process for all Greek organizations will begin next February.
