'TU, What's Good?' on equality and a check in from a Tystenac alumna

What do you do when you feel as if you are underrated for everything you do? When society has been taught that people like you don't matter and they chose to overlook the great effort that you put into making things better for them. Is there a way to help fix this?
- Overlooked
Dear Overlooked,

Honestly, it depends on the situation. There could be a difference due to your personal situation; is this directed at just you, or is this a global issue? What does “people like you” mean? Is this a problem due to disability, gender, race, or sexuality? If so, start here at home. There are many different organizations within the TU campus that could help your voice be heard!
These organizations include:

Black United Students (BUS)

SPECTRUM (formerly GLASS)

Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB)

LASO-Latin Student Organization (LASO)

CSSFA- Chinese Student and Scholar Friendship Association (CSSFA)

VOICE

NAMI

You can read all about these different organizations, and what they stand for, here.

Nothing is going to change overnight, but never give up working towards equality and making sure you are heard. No matter what. Society won’t be like this forever; the views of society are always changing to fit with the tones of the generation in charge. Right now, our generation is not the one in charge, but one day it will be. And I like to think our generation is more open minded and determined to work toward equality.

If this is more of a personal situation and there is a specific person or group who is discriminating against you, then evaluate the situation. Is this bullying? Harassment? If so, you may want to report it, or talk to someone about it. You can contact TU Counseling and Wellness to make an appointment at counseling@tiffin.edu or 419-448-3429.

Most importantly, don’t ever surrender your voice. Keep talking, drawing, writing; just keep expressing yourself in the way you do best. Someone, somewhere will hear you. And your voice can always make a difference, even if it influences the outlook or maybe inspires just one person, then you have made a change toward good. And that is always worth it.

Lots of love,

A Tystenangel
Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I have been stalking the site. I haven't been able to bring myself to look at it since graduating, but you have made it look so amazing.
I am so honored and proud to see how far you have come with everything. It is so easy to keep up to date with what is happening on campus (because some of us don't know how to let go).
I really just wanted to say that I am thankful that Tiffin has you guys and I am so proud of everything that you are accomplishing.
I love and miss my Tystenangels so much!! Hope you are all having a fantastic time, and that classes aren't too horrible!
- The feisty redhead
Dear Redhead,

We miss and love you too, my darling Tystengraduate! I am so glad that you are enjoying the work we are doing -- we appreciate your love and support so much! I hope you enjoyed being an alumna at this past alumni weekend! (Does it feel weird calling yourself an alumna?) Thankfully, classes are going really well and nobody here is failing! I have our Tystenangels Christmas card from last year framed on my desk in my room (no lie!) because I, too, am incapable of letting go. But truly, isn’t letting go for people with no spirit, honor, or glory? (To them I say: “Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!”) If you peeped the staff bios you will see that someone got themselves a promotion! We will be sure to hit you up with that Christmas card for this year. I hope you come visit us all (but mostly me) soon and we all hope you are joyous and prosperous in your first year of being an adult! We love you!

Lots of love,

A Tystenangel
