The '80s called, and they’re totally willing to lend you their style trends for this fall/winter season. With vintage everything being your one way ticket to popularity, it’s no surprise that Madonna would eventually regain her fashion icon status. So hold on to your bright, abstract patterns and pleather leggings, kiddies, because the '80s are back, baby!

1.  From the '60s to the '80s, anyone who was anyone had a Cruella de Vil fur coat. And after a 30 year hiatus, they are back in action, bigger and furrier than before. So grab Macklemore and hit that thrift shop: you’re gonna pop some tags.

2. The grunge movement birthed a form of couture that was featured in movies like The Heathers and St. Elmo's Fire and was shown off in the closet of major fashion icon Princess Diana. It's a style that would remain present in the clothing world before recently being brought out into the world of high fashion yet again. Plaid. Nothing like the 1980s to transform a kilt into a trend, and 2015 to copy it.

3. When J.W. Anderson decides abstract patterns are in and can only be paired with velvet green pants, you better believe it’s not only the hottest trend alive this fall, but also resurrected straight from 1980 fashion graveyard itself.

4. When somebody mentions patchwork in fashion, the first thought that comes to mind is 1980s Madonna, straight slaying the fashion world. When somebody mentions patchwork in 2015, the first though that comes to mind is that a child tore a hole in her pants and her mom ironed on one of those adorable little heart shaped patches to cover the tear. But when you ask couture what they think about patchwork, their answer is that it is a hodge-podge material revolution.

5.  Leggings, where the slogan for the '80s was “the bolder, the better!" The stereotypical 1980s costume is not complete without an eccentric pair of patterned leggings, and you better believe that a standard 2015 fall outfit is not complete without some fierce couture leggings. Just remember that all you need to complete your trendy look is some coordinating dark makeup and a leather bomber jacket, and you, too, can be an '80s diva.

Hi Jessica,

You're too young to know this, but the movies that spawned the 80s leggings movement was Flash dance. It's good to see that shoulder pads have not made a come back. Good article.
